Purple Rain

While it may be the middle of a holiday week, we here at Preval believe that you’re due the royal treatment.  What color is the one that psychologists and royalty gravitate towards?

For today’s edition in Preval’s color series, we’re going to indulge in that sensationally decadent shade of purple.  Wait you ask.  “If purple is actually the color of royalty then why is it common to see royalty with robes of red?” Or perhaps you’re curious about the phrase “blue blood.”  According to SensationalColor.com:

“Purple embodies the balance of red’s stimulation and blue’s calm. This dichotomy can cause unrest or uneasiness unless the undertone is clearly defined, at which point the purple takes on the characteristics of its undertone.”

The color purple represents a sense of balance to the already potentially overworked, stressed, day to day duties often associated with acting as the governing party.

Some more facts about the color purple:

  • The chip representing $5000 in Las Vegas is purple

  • The purple in the U.S. military Purple Heart award represents courage. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the United States armed forces who have been wounded in action.

  • In Japan, the color purple signifies wealth and position.

  • Famous musician Prince most identifies with purple as evidenced in his song “Purple Rain.”

  • The Byzantine emperor signed edicts in purple ink.

  • In Christianity, purple is associated with Advent and Lent.

Growing up, a purple bunny was given to yours truly.  As a young girl, perhaps I didn’t realize how important and significant this color was. Now, much later in life, as I have became educated to some of the psychology and too coincidental to be coincidental facts above, it gives me pause. Some cultures and ways of thinking might lead one to believe that this has to do with a new awareness of two chakras- which just so happen to be, shades of purple.

Does purple have the royal effect on you? Will the facts learned in this article change how you look at the color purple? For that calming royal bit of romanticism and allure, let us take you by the hand and whisk you away with the calming ease of one of our Preval sprayers or airbrush systems.
